Kente Weaving - Kente weaving is an ancient traditional weaving method in which thread is set on a loom and woven into strips and later then sewn together. These cloths are used for ceremonial events and differ in color and design depending on the region, tribe and chiefdom. The Kente program at TYS has been going on for the past two years led by Promise Badu, son of the Dogbeda Kente insitute propieter in the Volta Region. Assisted by Bossman Kwagye, TYS alumni who has been very successful in Kente, Promise will continue teaching on our 16 looms for the next year.

Batik Tie and Dye - The batik/tie and dye course taught by recent graduate Bossman Kwagye focuses on the various techniques used in the production of batik and tie and die fabrics. The class will be structured so that most of the learning will be hands-on, practical experience. Students will learn to design and carve their own wood and foam stamps and produce high quality material. The course will run until the June 2012.
