Soccer team

click to enlargeThe Trinity Yard F.C. had great successes this past season and continues to be an integral part of the schools community support. The teams which are now three; boys, A (varsity U-18), B (junior varsity U-16) and our newest junior team (U-12) and a partly organized girls team that seems to have a hard time fleeing from domestic chores to practice. We are working on reorganizing August 2010.

click to enlargeIn march our two Board members and sons John and Evan, Bob and Sam traveled to the Yard and brought three complete sets of soccer uniforms from Salem Mass, shorts from Puma and an assortment balls for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. The teams have sparked a sense of real community support for the youth, as townspeople crowd the pitch during matches, cheering for the teams. The TYS F.C. continues to impress the surrounding villages, towns, and cities with their abilities, and will without doubt continue to grow.

Farming

click to enlargeThe TYS farm project made heaps of progress this year through the committed hands of our UK teacher/volunteer Ant (Anthony Makeral). We built two large composting bins to improve our soil, designed and planted three new permanent planting beds with stonewalls to prevent erosion and cleared and planted the entire lower farm area with irrigation. During the past academic year Ant lead many class experiments in the farm as half of his class if not 75% was geared towards direct hands-on learning in the field. The farm initiative still focuses on three main objectives; first, to grow food for TYS students during the year; second, to learn about introducing different crops to the various soil types on the land; and third, to sell produce to the visiting groups to support TYS extra curricular activities. The farm will continue to be an experimental project, as the students are able to discover which crops are better suited for the area and eventually cut down of food cost for the school.

Dance and drum troupe

click to enlargeLed by master drummer and dancer, Joe Afagbedzi, the TYS culture troupe has gained much popularity among students and the Cape Three Points community in the past year. The culture troupe, which is comprised of about 15 dancers and 8 drummers, has been performing for the past two years at festivals, funerals, and marriages and, most importantly, on the sidelines of the TYS soccer matches. The dancing and drumming is an essential part of the school that keeps the heartbeat of the vision pulsing and unifies different cultures and paces of life through rhythm.
